As a consequence, rather than advancing the cause of knowledge and critical thinking, it has evolved into a tool of indoctrination that erodes the youth's ability to think rationally. To understand this perspective, it's essential to delve into the historical causes that some believe have led to the undermining of its scientific principles.
Causes
The system began in ancient Greece and Rome, has its roots in the promotion of logic, reason, and scientific inquiry. Thinkers like Plato, Aristotle, and later, during the Renaissance, figures like Galileo and Da Vinci, placed an emphasis on evidence-based inquiry and challenging the status quo.
However, over the past few centuries, various factors have influenced the trajectory of Western education:
With the rise of the Industrial Age, there was a pressing need for a workforce trained to follow instructions and perform specific tasks, this allowed the system to increase the sophistication of science on technological and technical approach to applied science, leading to the highes level of development experienced in the history of humanity.
Over time, the increasing level of economic welfare lead to the creation of large segments of the population living in conditions of abundace, that disconected real societal neccesities from unreal aspirations over the life experience. The western liberal democratic systems, also, stimulated political interests that later on were transposed into curriculum, and the education system, sooner, rater than rely in the quality of the scientific method and rational thinking, fall into the realm of ideology and propaganda.
